Group expands scholarhsip program
This release comes from The Woodlands GREEN:
With a deadline of April 30th, applications are now being accepted by The Woodlands G.R.E.E.N. for the environmental organization's 2010 Scholarship program. This year's program has been expanded to include Lone Star College-Montgomery students residing in the County.
According to Debra Wymore, scholarship coordinator, Scholarship awards of $1000 each will be awarded to graduating seniors and Lone Star College-Montgomery students in recognition of their environmental contributions and stewardship activities in their community."
Any eligible high school or Lone Star College student residing in Montgomery County who exemplifies a commitment to caring for the environment and plans to continue his or her education or vocational training after graduation is eligible to apply," Wymore explains. With the Woodlands Village of Creekside located in northern Harris County, students from there are also eligible.
To be considered, candidates are required to complete the application form and submit a brief essay describing how volunteer activities have influenced their attitude about the environment and how it will affect their actions in the future. Providing a maximum of two letters of recommendation is optional.
In 2009, the program awarded four scholarships of $1000 each to graduating seniors from two area high schools. Announcement of the 2010 recipients will be made at the annual meeting of The Woodlands G.R.E.E.N. held on June 7, 2010.
