Author to speak at Junior League event
The Junior League of North Harris and South Montgomery Counties, Inc. will host author Erin Gruwell this Saturday, from 9 to 11 a.m. at The Woodlands Church, located on the Fellowship of The Woodlands campus. At the event, titled Achieving the Impossible: Become a Catalyst for Change", Gruwell will discuss her experiences teaching at-risk students and her quest to empower them and change their futures.
Author of the bestseller The Freedom Writers Diary: How a Teacher and 150 Teens Used Writing to Change Themselves and the World around Them", Gruwell will share her wisdom with local educators and other interested members of the community at the event. The book was made into the 2007 feature film Freedom Writers", starring Hilary Swank and Patrick Dempsey.
The cost for attendance is $10 per person; however, all area school district employees may register at no charge on their district web site and will receive four Continuing Education credits for participating in the event. Tickets are available online at the Junior League's web site.
