The University Interscholastic League biennial realignment was announced on Monday, bringing change to area schools.
The Woodlands, College Park and Oak Ridge will remain in District 14-5A for the next two years, along with Conroe and Lufkin, but will have a couple of new faces to deal with. Humble ISD schools Kingwood and Atascocita move into the district to form a seven-team league.
Kingwood and The Woodlands are familiar with one another," Conroe ISD Athletics Director Ronny Peacock said. They have a history."
The Woodlands last played Kingwood in football during the 2003 season, one in which the Highlanders played for the Class 5A state championship. The Highlanders have played Kingwood 22 times in football, holding a 17-5 advantage over the Mustangs.
Over the history of the football program, The Woodlands has played only Conroe (32) and Humble (23) more times than Kingwood.
We thought that with New Caney and Humble dropping down to 4A, that we might be put in with the Humble 5A schools," Peacock said.
Magnolia and Magnolia West move over to District 17-4A to form an eight-team district with Montgomery, Waller, and Houston ISD schools Spring Woods, Northbrook and Stratford.
The recently announced realignment was for football and basketball. Realignment for other sports will be announced at a later date.
