Woman shot during carjacking attempt at mall

A Spring woman was shot Thursday morning during an attempted carjacking at The Woodlands Mall.
The 23-year old woman had just pulled into the parking lot about 10:45 a.m. near JC Penney's when she was approached by armed suspect.
A struggle ensued as the suspect attempted to steal her Toyota, and the woman was shot in the upper leg, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.
The suspect fled the scene on foot. Deputy Dax Bayer arrived at the scene one minute after the dispatcher broadcast the incident and gathered information about the suspect from witnesses.
Sgt. Brady Fitzgerald found the suspect hiding in tall grass near the overpass at Lake Woodlands Drive and Interstate 45, said Lt. Dan Norris of the sheriff's office. Late Thursday afternoon, deputies had located what they believe was the handgun used by the suspect, which was found near where the suspect was arrested.
The suspect, tentatively identified as Duvan Johnson, 20, from Houston, was arrested and positively identified as the perpetrator by several witnesses, Norris said. He has been charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated assault. A bond has not been set.
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital and is in good condition.
