Little things mean a lot

As any mother of school-aged children will tell you, there's nothing quite like reveling in your offspring's successes, no matter how small. So when my boys' report cards came home last week with straight A's, my first reaction was one of immense satisfaction, after which I immediately thought of how to let them know how proud I am of their accomplishments. Luckily for me, their school was kind enough to include a reward of its own in the manila envelope a coupon for each kid to get a free yogurt at Red Mango.
While one free small yogurt might seem like a menial prize for such hard work, you have to remember that when it comes to kids, little things often mean a lot. With that in mind, we loaded up in the car and headed to Market Street to try out that new treat place with the funny name."
As we opened the door, we were instantly met by smiles and greetings of Welcome to Red Mango!" I have to admit that as I sidled up to the counter to place our order, I worried that, like most other freebies", there might be some hassle with the coupons. You know how it goes, Oh, you have to order something full price to get the free one," or, Sorry, only one coupon per customer per visit." I'm happy to report that, not only did we not pay one red cent, the salesperson offered to add free chocolate syrup in addition to our free topping, and then proceeded to let us use both coupons at the same time. Free actually means free what a concept!
Now, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be good. However, the cynic in me promptly shut my mouth upon tasting my oldest son's Cocoa yogurt with organic Oreo topping. The creamy concoction tasted so good that I momentarily forgot that it is also good for you. Red Mango prides itself in using all-natural, organic, low-calorie, low-fat, gluten-free yogurt, enriched with probiotics for healthy digestion. Don't tell my kids that, though, cause they'd never believe something that tastes yummy could be healthy, too.
As we walked out of Red Mango that afternoon with full bellies and smiles on our faces, the trio at the counter bid us farewell and come again". I waved over my shoulder as I replied, Don't worry, we'll be back again very soon."
I hope sharing my positive experience at a local retailer might entice my fellow Woodlanders to try some of our new local businesses, like Red Mango. Do you have any shopping or dining experiences that you'd like to share? If so, please leave a comment below.
