This release comes from Lone Star College-Montgomery:
The Chamber Singers and Concert Choir from Lone Star College-Montgomery will perform melodies and arrangements of American choral music on Tuesday, February 23, at 7:30 p.m., in the mainstage theatre (Building D). The concert is free and open to everyone.
The concert program, Music of the Americas," is an exploration of African-American spiritual and Latin American songs. The program will feature Ariel Ramirez's stunning Misa Criolla for chorus, guitar, and percussion. For this concert, LSC-Montgomery student guitarist, Michael Nelson, will join the Chamber Singers.
The music of the African-American spiritual is a vast and rich repertory of some of the most moving melodies ever sung," said DiOrio, assistant professor of music at LSC-Montgomery and director of the performance. LSC-Montgomery choirs will explore this historic tradition and the songs and poetry of Latin America in this free evening of music-making."
Currently, DiOrio is a doctoral candidate in choral conducting at Yale University. He received his master's degree in choral conducting from Yale University in 2008, studying with noted professors Marguerite L. Brooks and Simon Carrington. DiOrio received his bachelor's degree in composition from the Ithaca College School of Music in 2006, graduating summa cum laude.
