The Woodlands athletes in action: Men's basketball

The following men's basketball players, all with The Woodlands high school ties, will see action this week:

Evan Cooper, the University of Hartford
Position: Guard
High school: College Park
This week: Wednesday, Feb. 20 vs. the University of New Hampshire
About Cooper: The freshman guard for the University of Hartford is a 2012 graduate of College Park High School in The Woodlands, where he was named the Courier's All-Montgomery County Player of the Year. He also earned the District 14-5A MVP award. During his senior year, he was named First Team All-District 14-4A for scoring 75 points, with four rebounds and three steals. The international studies major is from Houston.

Joe Carr, Virginia Military Institute
High school: The Woodlands Christian Academy
This week:
Tuesday, Feb. 19 at High Point University
Thursday, Feb. 21 at Charleston Southern University
About Carr: From 2006-2009, he played basketball at The Woodlands Christian Academy, leading them to the TAPPS State Championship in his junior and senior years. Carr was named district player of the year for two seasons, while also earning all-state honors for three consecutive seasons. He was selected to play in the Canary Island International Basketball Tournament, where he competed against teams from Spain and the Canary Islands. Team captain and Montgomery County Player of the Year (two seasons), he was also a finalist for the Conroe Rotary Club Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Wes Cole, the University of Hartford
Position: Guard
High School: The Woodlands
This week: Wednesday, Feb. 20 vs. the University of New Hampshire
About Cole: The sophomore guard for the University of Hartford is a 2011 graduate of The Woodlands High School, where he was first team 14-5A All-District selection as a junior and senior. In his senior year, he was Montgomery County offensive MVP. That same season, he also was a Texas Association of Basketball Coaches All-Region and All-State honoree, scoring 1,276 points. The Woodlands native is an insurance/finance major.
