Conroe grad Martin leads Sam Houston State to victory
Conroe High School graduate Britni Martin poured in 21 points to pace Sam Houston State to a 72-61 home victory over conference rival Northwestern State Monday, Jan. 7, at Johnson Coliseum in Huntsville
The Sam Houston State website reported Martin also recorded three rebounds, seven assists and three steals for the Bearcats, as they improved to 5-7 on the season and 1-1 in the Southland Conference.
Sam Houston State's next game is 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10 on the road against Lamar.
Martin is a 2009 graduate of Conroe High School where she was an all-greater Houston and all-district player on the basketball court for coach Deidre Hinze. As a senior (2008-09) Martin averaged 17.1 points 5.2 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game. Martin was a McDonalds All-America candidate. She was also one of the top scorers in the 2008 Texas Girls Basketball Association All-Star Game. Martin was a three-time all-district selection and was the district's newcomer of the year as a freshman (2005-06). She was a four-time academic all-district honoree and earned all-district honors on the soccer field as well. Martin was a member of the National Honor Society. She is from Conroe.
