GE walk, run raises $160K for outreach

The 23rd annual GE Run Thru the Woods charity run and walk event, directed by the South Montgomery County YMCA, was held Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, Nov. 22, at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion.

According to a YMCA press release, “A record-breaking number of participants showed early Thanksgiving morning to run and walk for charity as well as enjoy the wonderful weather, festivities on the plaza and holiday spirit with their neighbors, friends, and family. Topping last year’s total of registered participants by more than 10 percent, this year had close to 6,000 runners and walkers. After the walk and the races, a complimentary pancake breakfast was provided on the Plaza for all participants by local restaurant, The Egg & I.”

The event raised $160,000 for South Montgomery County YMCA Partners Program, Operation Graduation, Conroe ISD AFJROTC and Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion Education Outreach Program.

Museum offering classes during Christmas break

The Woodlands Children’s Museum is offering two classes Thursday, Dec. 27 and two more classes Friday, Dec. 28.

The Dec. 27 paper antics class will be offered at 9 a.m. According to a press release from The Woodlands Children’s Museum, children will create winter crafts from recycled objects like egg cartons and toilet paper rolls while making paper. 

A box of ideas class will be offered at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27. According to the press release, “This workshop expands the creative process using simple cardboard boxes creating safe havens and other useful and pretend objects for imaginative travel and play.” 

On Friday, Dec. 28, the museum will host a princess and pirate play class at 9 a.m. The class focuses on “creative and imaginative play, pirates make hats, masks, necklaces and cardboard box pirate ships while princesses make wands, create and embellish wings and imagine life as a princess constructing a cardboard box castle,” according to the release. 

At 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, a winter snack attack class will be offered. Children will make winter-themed snacks with well-known and new ingredients.

Each class costs $29 for members and $39 for non-members.

Crescent Moon hosts party for giving campaign

Crescent Moon Wine Bar and Restaurant hosted a costume party for New Danville’s annual giving campaign.

According to a Crescent Moon Wine Bar and a Restaurant press release, “The star-studded soiree encouraged guests to come dressed as their favorite celebrity, which added a whimsical fun element to the evening. The celebrities sighted included Dolly Parton, Steve Martin, Twiggy, Willie Nelson, Audrey Hepburn, Frank Sinatra and Paula Deen. Guests enjoyed dinner, dancing, and wine while Kathy Sanders, founder and CEO of New Danville, gave an informative giving campaign presentation about the benefits New Danville residents receive that are funded by donations.”

“This is the second year that we’ve hosted an 83.33 themed annual giving campaign,” Sanders said in the release. “It has been a successful concept and this year’s event was a lot of fun with fantastic costumes.”
