St. Luke's The Woodlands designated as Texas Mother Friendly workplace
St. Luke's The Woodlands Hospital was recently named a Texas Mother-Friendly workplace by the Texas Department of State Health Services.
Businesses that actively support employees who breastfeed their infants may receive this designation, according to a press release.
The hospital received the award due to its policy allowing flexible scheduling for breastfeeding employees and offering clean, private rooms to express milk during their baby's first year. The medical center also provides a sink for hand washing, breast pump equipment and refrigeration.
"Breastfeeding is known to be beneficial to the health of babies and mothers," said Peg Reiter, vice president and chief nursing officer of St. Luke's, according to the press release. "At St. Luke's, we want to encourage our employees to continue to breastfeed after returning to work, which is why we are so proud that our hospital has been designated as a Texas Mother-Friendly Worksite."
St. Luke's The Woodlands Hospital is at 17200 St. Luke's Way.
