Walk to End Alzheimer's raises more than $100,000
More than 1,000 people participated in the Alzheimers Association's Walk to End Alzheimers in The Woodlands on Saturday, Oct. 6.
The Walk to End Alzheimer's event in The Woodlands on Saturday, Oct. 6 raised more than $100,000 for Alzheimer's care, support and research.
As part of a nationwide effort, more than 1,000 Harrison and Montgomery County residents participated in the 5K walk, raising funds and awareness about the Alzheimer's Association and its mission according to a press release issued by the Alzheimer's Association. Participants learned about what they can do to combat Alzheimer's disease and some of the current research being done.
"I was inspired by Montgomery County residents uniting in the fight against Alzheimer's disease at Walk to End Alzheimer's," said Kiri Cook, an Alzheimer's Association Outreach Coordinator, in a press release. "With funds raised, the Alzheimer's Association will be able to provide much needed care and support to people affected by the disease as well as fund critically needed Alzheimer's research."
Alzheimer's disease is becoming one of the nation's most troubling epidemics, now ranked as the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States. An estimated 5.4 million Americans are currently afflicted with the disease, including more than 340,000 Texans.
