Preparation underway for The Woodlands National Night Out

The Woodlands will hold National Night Out from 5:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, with several events scheduled prior to the occasion.

The 29th Annual National Night Out is a night when residents across the United States come out to meet neighbors and local public safety officials and speak out against crime in their neighborhood. According to a press release, residents knowing their neighbors are one of the most effective ways to prevent crime in a neighborhood and National Night Out gives residents a chance to do so. The Woodlands has celebrated National Night Out since 1990, garnering many awards.

The first event to take place prior to National Night Out is The Woodlands Fire Department versus Montgomery County Sheriff's office softball game to be held from 10-11:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25. The game will be at Scotland Yard at McCullough Junior High School located at 3800 S. Panther Creek Drive.

Family movie night will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14. The movie presented will be "Little Big League." Movie night will be at Northshore Park, located at 2505 Lake Woodlands Drive.

From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19 there will be a supply and registration day at The Woodlands Township located at 2801 Technology Forest Blvd. Woodlands watch coordinators can pick up supplies such as balloons, giveaways , signs and party ideas for National Night Out.

A community wide kickoff will take place from 1-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22. at Northshore Park, located at 2505 Lake Woodlands Drive. Law enforcement and public safety agencies will gather for a celebration to promote involvement in crime prevention activities and strengthen police and community relationship.

Early bird registration for National Night out ends Friday, Sept. 14. If residents register their night out by then, their name will be entered in a drawing for a chance to win free pizza and other prizes for their party.

The events will end with National Night Out neighborhood parties. Residents of The Woodlands are encouraged to get out Tuesday, Oct. 2 and participate in a variety of activities, including having a food drive, taking photos for a photo contest, make thank you posters that will be given to local public safety officials and playing I.D. the Burglar.
