Suspect arrested in home burglary
After receiving numerous tips, detectives with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office have arrested a man suspected by police to be involved in a home burglary.
Detectives and Sheriffs deputies arrested Zachary Todd Woodard, 21, at around 12:15 p.m. Aug. 16 in an apartment near an RV Park on Nichols Sawmill Road. Woodward is being charged with burglary of a habitation and possession of a controlled substance.
According to a police report, during the morning hours Aug. 8, a home in the Sentinel Oaks Subdivision just off of Highway 249 in the Pinehurst area was burglarized. Surveillance video captured a person, suspected by police to be Woodward, as he left the residence with a large screen television.
At the time of the arrest, Woodard attempted to convince detectives that he was his younger brother. Also, crystal methamphetamine was allegedly found on his person, prompting police to also charge him with possession of a controlled substance.
Although Woodard did not specifically say that he had seen the surveillance footage, he was aware of the news broadcasts of the crime and his appearance had recently been altered by cutting his hair and shaving, according to the police report.
