Annual GE Run through the Woods event scheduled for Thanksgiving morning

The 23rd annual GE Run through the Woods, a race and walk designed for all ages and levels of fitness, is a holiday tradition held the morning of Thursday, Nov. 22.

The 23rd annual GE Run through the Woods, a race and walk designed for all ages and levels of fitness, is a holiday tradition held the morning of Thursday, Nov. 22.

The event is known as one of Texas' premier running and walking family events. The event is expected to draw over 6,500 participants, spectators and volunteer, making it the largest Thanksgiving racing event in the Houston area. Individuals from nearly 30 different states and countries are expected to participate in the event.

The charity event features a 5-mile certified race, a 1-mile children's race, a 3-mile walk and a 3-mile run for all ages.

According to Roxanne Davis, race director and YMCA community liaison, there are still sponsor opportunities available at all levels. Proceeds from the GE Run through the Woods benefit Operation Graduation activities, ROTC programs at local high schools, child education outreach programs and YMCA outreach programs.

The financial success of the event is dependent on the generous support of community partners through sponsorships and in-kind services. Because of the long-term success with corporate partners, the event is known as a premier regional running race and a great family activity. Sponsors have the chance to market their brand to over 6,000 individuals and support local youth charities.
