Registration now underway for YMCA Dragon Boat Challenge

Several spots are still open for this year’s 14th annual YMCA Dragon Boat Team Challenge.

The four-day South Montgomery County YMCA event will be at Northshore Park and Lake Woodlands, on Sept. 27 through Sept. 30. Spots available include the Thursday afternoon bracket, Sunday afternoon bracket and the High School Division on Sunday morning. Spots have sold out during the previous two events, so early registration is encouraged.

Dragon boats are 40-feet long colorful dragon headed canoes which weigh more than 1,800 pounds. All YMCA Dragon Boat must teams have between 20 and 30 members, with at least five women. All participants must be at least 18-years-old for all brackets, except for the high school division which competes from 8 a.m. to noon Sept. 30.

Entry cost per teams is $625 or $550 for high school and non-profit groups. All equipment, rules and instructions as well as a team tent, water and ice and event T-shirt are provided by the YMCA. Money from the event funds YMCA Outreach Programs.

To register, visit the YMCA located at 6145 Shadowbend Place, the Woodlands. Team registration forms are available at ymcadragonboat.org.
