The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion was recently ranked third in the top 50 amphitheaters in the world by Pollstar magazine, a concert industry trade publication.
The rankings were based on the number of tickets sold in the first half of 2012.
The pavilion sold 138,696 tickets for shows between Jan. 1 and June 30. Four of the shows sold out, including Buzzfest, Dave Matthews Band, Jimmy Buffet and One Direction.
Jerry MacDonald, president and CEO of Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, attributes the venue's success to the strong local market, the staff, the pavilion itself and its concert promoter partner, Live Nation.
