Branch Crossing YMCA to host Kiwanis Kids YMCA Youth Triathlon
The South Montgomery County YMCA and The Woodlands Kiwanis Club will host the Kiwanis Kids YMCA Youth Triathlon on July 28 at the Branch Crossing YMCA.
The event is open to children ages 7-12. Participants will be divided into five age groups: 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11-12. Triathlons include swimming, running and cycling segments. Children ages 7-9 will swim for 50 meters, cycle for 1 mile and run a quarter-mile. Children age 10-12 will swim for 100 meters, cycle for 2 miles and run a quarter-mile. All participants must wear helmets during the bike segment and shoes for the run segment.
This year’s event will feature chip timing for better finish-line results. The top three male and female finishers will receive a special prize. All event finishers will receive a medal after the race.
Check-in will begin at 5:45 a.m. During check-in, participants will receive race numbers, a race chip, event T-shirt, instructions, course maps and a body marker. The triathlon will begin at 7:45 a.m.
To register, visit www.greaterhoustonkiwanis.org/triathlon. Advance registration is $25 per child, and is due by 5 p.m. July 27. Race-day registration is $30. To register, participants must also register for (and show proof of) an annual USA Triathlon youth membership, which is $5. Memberships are available at uastriathlon.org.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the YMCA Partners program. Event sponsors include The Woodlands Kiwanis Club, Kelsey-Seybold, Dickinson Chiropractics, Lonestar Multi Sports, Academy, Spectrum Events and Aon Hewitt.
