The Woodlands discontinues red-light cameras
Precinct 3 Constable Tim Holifield has confirmed that The Woodlands is discontinuing its red-light camera operation.
The news comes after Montgomery County recently renewed its contract with Redflex Traffic Systems, the largest provider of traffic cameras nationwide.
The program has been stopped due to concerns it was not in compliance with transportation codes that require a traffic study to be done at the sites where the cameras are operating. The results of the program were also not being properly reported to the Texas Department of Transportation, according to a release.
The program started with cameras at Woodlands Parkway at East Panther Creek Drive and Woodlands Parkway at Woodloch Forest Drive. Cameras were added at Lake Woodlands Drive at Gosling Road, Research Forest Drive at Gosling Road and Woodlands Parkway at Kuykendahl.
Violations incurred a $75 fine. Holifield said Montgomery County will also be refunding fees collected from the program.
