Woodlands HS grad Paul Goldschmidt goes deep against Seattle

Paul Goldschmidt, a 2006 Woodlands High School graduate, scored two runs to help the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 14-10 victory over the Seattle Mariners in Major League Baseball interleague baseball action on Wednesday.

For the game, Goldschmidt went 2-for-5, with a double. On the season, the first baseman is batting .285, with nine home runs and 30 RBI.

Goldschmidt was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 49th round, 1,453rd overall, of the 2006 Major League Baseball draft, but opted to attend college at Texas State.

He was drafted in the eighth round, 246th overall, of the 2009 MLB draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks. In 2010, his first full professional season, he was named MVP of the California League and the Diamondbacks minor league player of the year after batting .314 with 42 doubles, 3 triples, 35 home runs and 108 RBI for Vasalia.
