The John Cooper School Class of 2012 recognized science teacher Louis Ashworth as the 2012 Upper School Teacher of the Year.

The award was presented to Ashworth by senior class officers, including President Alejandro Ramirez, Vice President Holden Tikkanen, Secretary Stefanie Ott and Treasurer Julie Johansen, during the school's annual end-of-year senior awards dinner.

Ashworth, who has worked in education for 34 years, has been a member of the Cooper faculty for three years; he teaches physics, chemistry and advanced placement physics.

"I enjoy working with young people," Ashworth said in a news release. "I enjoy working with other teachers, who in my opinion are the most dedicated people in the world, and I really enjoy the way the teaching profession has distinct cycles. It's a new beginning every year."
