Magnolia West High School defends district title

The Magnolia West High School Mustang swim and dive team defended their district title the weekend of Jan. 21.

The boys’ team became three-year district champs, and the girls’ team became back-to-back two-time champions.

All three of the girls’ relays took first place, and all three of the boys’ relays also advanced to regionals. The boys’ meet came down
to the last event, where the boys’ 400 free relay pulled off a stunning victory by one-tenth of a second.

The Mustangs broke several school and pool records, with 24 gold medals, five silver medals and 11 bronze medals.

Individual district champions are: Allie Sullins, Bailey Bodway, Amanda Bezilla, Jessica Sloan, Brendan Costello, Trey DeShazo,
Individual regional qualifiers: Allie Sullins, Carly Sullins, Amanda Bezilla, Jessica Sloan, Bailey Bodway, Erin Giles, Liz Weston, Hannah Rokhsaz, Kaylan Wigglesworth, Makayla Dees, Travis Clifford, Brendan Costello, Trey DeShazo, Matt Oliver, Erik Johannessen, Josh Devine, Tyler McDonald, Connar Holt and Alex Happe.

Jessica Sloan and Brendan Costello were named “Athletes of the Meet” and won their individual races.

Coach Jeremy Wade also received “Boys and Girls District Coach of the Year.”
