Veggie Village holds grand opening at Alden Bridge Sports Park
Veggie Village opened Sunday, Jan. 29, at the Alden Bridge Sports Park.
The grand opening saw more than 500 guests visit. Puffy the Pine Cone made an appearance at the event to cut the green ribbon to open the garden. Becky Carlson, dressed as Mrs. McGregor, read "Peter Rabbit," while Gene LeRoy assisted kids in planting vegetables. Students from Buckalew Elementary Choir performed at the opening.
Students in attendance got to take part in a worm farm, games about salad and much more.
"We were so pleased to have all of the children. They added so much to the day. Their enthusiasm for learning and participating is infectious. Veggie Village contributes a new dimension to a community that shares, and children do this so naturally," Sylvia Campbell, chair of the planning committee, said in a press release.
The project is a joint effort by Interfaith of The Woodlands, the Veggie Village Committee and the community. The garden will be used to promote community spirit and activity as community members work together to raise money and maintain the garden.
