New yard trimming guidelines begin in Woodlands
New guidelines for Waste Management yard waste pickup went into effect Wednesday, Feb. 1.
WM will only collect grass, branches and other trimmings in compostable or biodegradable bags, open containers or bundles. Yard waste in plastic bags will no longer be accepted to save the cost of debagging at the company's composting facility.
Compostable and biodegradable bags are available for purchase at local grocery, hardware and big box stores. Branches in bundles or open containers should be trimmed to 4 feet.
No trimmings of any kind should be dumped in open-space reserves or greenbelts at is it a violation of Township Covenants and can increase the risk of wildfire.
Two additional recycling facilities currently accept yard trimmings, with debagging done onsite:
Precinct 3 Collection Center, 1122 Pruitt Road, is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
Operating as a self-serve site, The Woodland Recycling Center on Research Forest Drive asks residents to empty their own plastic bags. The center is open from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesdays and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
