FOUNTAINS AT WATERWAY NOW PLAYING $86,000 WORTH OF TUNES

The current playlist, which features 18 songs including Winter Wonderland, America the Beautiful and Louie, Louie, will be expanded to include more modern favorites and holiday classics. At its Sep. 21 meeting, the Township's Board of Directors voted to sign a three-year contract with REDE Solutions Inc., the company which originally installed the software for the musical recordings. Township president and manager Don Norrell explained that the Township opened the Fountains in 2007 with five programmed songs, which were choreographed to lights and water movement. Since the opening of the fountains, the Township paid about $54,000 to have eight new songs added to the inventory in 2008 and 2009. Five additional songs were donated by the Development Co., Norrell said. Since 2009, the Township has not funded additional songs because of the high cost of each song. The company responded saying it could reduce the cost if it were allowed more time to program the songs, a more flexible time schedule to cut travel costs and a long-term agreement with a minimum number of songs.
