CISD starts reading initiative
Conroe Independent School District is asking parents to read to their children - each day for at least 30 minutes. The book presents research showing that reading aloud to children will help awaken their imaginations, improve language skills and create a lifelong love of reading. Stockton said if all parents in CISD read for 30 minutes, the amount of time would add up and make a significant difference. The district mailed flyers out to the community, asking parents to read to their children. Marjorie Podzielinsky, an elementary school librarian for the Coulson Tough School, attended the board meeting and commended the initiative. Stockton said he has made an effort during his time as superintendent to read to students during his school visits, regardless of their ages.
