College Park grad Katie Matthews wins game with walk off grand slam
College Park High School graduate Katie Matthews hit a towering walk off grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning to allow the Southeastern Louisiana softball team to complete a series sweep over Central Arkansas with a 6-4 victory Sunday afternoon at North Oak Park.
Matthews finished the day two-for-three with a career-high five RBIs.
Katie, a junior outfielder, is third on the team in hitting at .313 and tied for first on the squad with 12 runs batted in.
Matthews was a four-sport performer at College Park High School. In addition to softball, she played on the school’s volleyball, track and basketball teams. Matthews was a member of the Texas Sting club team.
Born Katelyn Matthews in Livonia, Michigan, Katie is one of Jerry and Vicki Matthews’ three children, and is majoring in general studies.
Before playing at SLU, Matthews spent two seasons at Centenary, starting 91 of 93 games.
