published Jul. 11, 2011

The South Montgomery County YMCA and The Woodlands Kiwanis Club are hosting the Kiwanis Kids YMCA Youth Triathlon at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, at the Branch Crossing YMCA.

The fifth race in the Kiwanis Kids Series 2011, all children ages 7 to 12 (as of Dec. 31, 2011) are eligible to register. The 2011 event will feature chip timing for accurate finish line results. The event features five age divisions: 7, 8, 9 and 10, plus 11- and 12-year-olds together. Boys and girls will compete separately in their age groups, and distances will vary per age group. All finishers will receive a medal at the conclusion of their race. The top three finishers, male and female, in each age group will receive a special award.

Registration forms are available at the YMCA locations of 6145 Shadowbend Place and 8100 Ashlane Way in The Woodlands. Walk-in registration ends at noon on July 29. Online registration is available at www.signmeupsports.com and ends at 5 p.m. on July 29. All participants must be members of the USA Triathlon. Membership is available for purchase at www.usatriathlon.org.

Race day morning registration will be available beginning at 5:45 a.m. The registration fee is $30 on race day, and proof of USA Triathlon Membership is required for registration.

For those who are interested in learning more about triathlons, the YMCA is hosting a Youth Triathlon Clinic July 18 through July 22 at the Shadowbend YMCA, which will be led by Mindy Reich, USAT Triathlon Coach. The morning clinic is 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., and the evening clinic is 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Registration is available at the South Montgomery County YMCAs.
