Dr. John Giannakis & Northwoods Urology Associates

TAKE CARE OF YOUR HEALTH! Before seeing Dr. Giannakis, please read this... My name is Steve. I’m a healthy 56 yr old man. I have regular annual exams, and am very proactive with regards to my health. I’ve had two routine prostate exams, in 2006 and 2008. My results were normal, and there were no complications. In October 2010, I scheduled my routine prostate exam with Dr. Giannakis at Northwood Urology Associates. Dr. Giannakis botched the procedure. As a result, I lost over half the blood in my body (8 pints).....an ambulance, emergency room visit, 3 days in the hospital, blood transfusion, and mounting medical bills, (along with my loss of income)...All due to Dr. Giannakis’ botched routine prostate exam. The bleeding was stopped in the emergency room by another Northwoods Urology Associates doctor, who mentioned he’d only seen this 3 times in his 20 years experience, and that two of those people had pre-existing medical conditions. From Oct 2010 to now, I have requested several meetings to try to come up with a fair and equitable settlement, but Northwood Urology Associates and Dr. Giannakis refuse to accept any responsibility for this. Their response to the botched prostate exam: “...Dr. Giannakis met the acceptable medical standard of care.” Part 2: I'm sure everyone is going to have an opinion once they've visited Dr. John Giannakis....some good, some bad.  However, I can tell you this:  The day after he "treated" me (stabbed my prostate, causing me to lose 8 pints of blood), he left for vacation to Greece.  Upon returning from his vacation, (and being informed of my hospital stay, etc), he NEVER reached out to me.    In fact, after several communications with Northwoods Urology Associates, and their "legal representative", the conclusion was made that Dr. John Giannakis' botched prostate exam was "acceptable medical standard of care.”   Wouldn't ANY reputable business do SOMETHING to try to rectify the situation?  Generally, if they screw something up, they'll do something to make it right. I even suggested $5000 JUST to recover medical costs, and time off from work.  $5000... And they never contacted me.  That's why I'm writing this...to let you know that if you seek services from Northwoods Urology Associates, they completely stand behind their doctors...and do not attempt to do ANYthing for you, the patient.
