High Taxes

I just moved here from the Northest, the New York City area and I'm considering buying a house in the Woodlands. I'm very concerned as too why the taxes are so high in this area, almost the same as the NYC area. A house valued at $500,000 in New York state has a tax of 10,000 while a house in the Woodlands with a value of $250,000 has a tax of $9,000 , something is wrong when a low tax state such as Texas has excessive taxes on property worth half the amount , compared too a high tax state such as New York with a state tax and a high cost of living. The concern I have is where is the money going???? These type of taxes have driven New Yorkers into poverty, the elderly, the young familys , the students, the average person , the middle-class, single parents etc,,,,,,,, everybody , because of bloated government and thier salaries and spending by government. Is this the fate of "The Woodlands" in 20 years , a $250,000 house and 18,000 in taxes and poverty for alll the residents?

RE: High Taxes

I am witnessing a problem developing here, because the taxes are high in The Woodlands and the Houston Area compared to more sophisticated areas of the country. The authorities should be thinking on lowering this excessive taxes and also increasing the homestead excemptions. Another problem developing is that the taxes keep going up,but the values of the homes(actual) keep going south. Families are having a tough time earning equity since they have been offset by heavy taxes and lost value of properties. There is still time to correct this situation, Hopefully greed can be stopped and help all home owners. Also, home valuations are at 100 % every year(everybody knows that houses deteriorate with years and can not be appraised every year at 100 % valuations).
