The number of car burglaries in The Woodlands increased 64 percent between 2008 and 2009. Reid Isaac, who is only 10 years old, recently had the thrill of a lifetime when she scored a hole-in-one. The Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District will consider rule changes in April to allow underground brackish water supplies to be considered as an alternative water source to meet a mandated reduction in the use of groundwater. There was a last minute flurry of filings on Monday for four positions available on The Woodlands Township, leading to contested races for each seat in the May 8 elections. Eleven candidates have filed for three seats on the Lone Star College System board. Montgomery County plans to commit about $31.5 million in bonds to build a secure mental health facility for criminal defendants.

A 2.5-acre site at the corner of Harper’s Landing Boulevard and South Trade Center Parkway has been purchased by Dhukani Properties for development of a small retail center. It's time to get down and dirty, even if you're still waiting to see which plants have survived the long, cold winter. This year's Leadership Montgomery County class is working on several projects at The Community Clinic. The Woodlands Township hosted the 15th Annual Public Safety Heroes Awards Banquet on Friday at The Woodlands Resort and Conference Center. Interfaith of The Woodlands held its annual Five Who Share Spring Luncheon at The Woodlands Resort and Conference Center.

The Lone Star College System Board of Trustees authorized the sale of $120 million in bonds and approved new facilities for its Tomball, Kingwood and Montgomery campuses as well as new satellite center in Atascocita and Aldine. Oak Ridge North is embroiled in a political scandal that has culminated in indictments against several city officials, including the mayor. Montgomery County’s largest new development is sprouting up in the center of the county, with hopes of growing into the next upscale hometown for the area. Looking for something to do this weekend? The Woodlands recently opened its newly expanded community garden and already there are 30 more people on the waiting list. The annual “In the Spotlight” Teen Talent Show will take place Saturday at Rob Fleming Park in Creekside Village.

The Woodlands Convention & Visitors Bureau is teaming up with the local chamber to fund a web site for The Woodlands Area Film Commission. The Woodlands Convention & Visitors Bureau wants to open the community to social, military, education, religious, fraternal and sport events. Preparations are under way for the 2010 Montgomery County Fair. Events at Lone Star College-Montgomery will honor two American milestones March 5-6.

Republican incumbents for Montgomery County seats head to the November election with no Democratic opponents, while candidates for two county courts will face a runoff in April. A Powell Elementary third-grader is recovering from brain surgery and a fundraiser is planned to help cover her medical bills. Officers with the Bellaire Police Department have arrested two suspects that Montgomery County Sheriff's deputies believe burglarized a Woodlands home Friday morning. The Woodlands Township has set April 29 as Cynthia Woods Mitchell Day to honor her efforts in helping to create The Woodlands.

An assistant Montgomery County District Attorney resigned Monday after being arrested last week, charged of driving while intoxicated. Filing for four positions on The Woodlands Township board of directors ends March 8. Montgomery County resident Donald Ferrarone, a former U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agent, has written a screenplay about an unsolved string of Galveston County murders in what came to be known as the killing fields of League City and along the Gulf Freeway corridor. A new tenant, Frost Bake Shoppe: Cupcakes & More, will open its doors in Indian Springs the first week of April. For the area high school softball teams, district play gets under way this week. The Woodlands boys soccer team will host and old rival on Friday in a big District 14-5A game.

The Woodlands wrestler Cody Davis won his second consecutive state title in the 215-pound weight class on Saturday. He finished his season with a 34-0 record. The Woodlands boys swim team won the state championship Saturday, edging Kingwood for the title. Students from around the Conroe Independent School District showcased their knack for science during the Education for Tomorrow Alliance's SCI://TECH 2010 Elementary School Science exhibit booths at the Lone Star College-Montgomery campus on Saturday. The Woodlands Township president will review all legal actions taken by the Development Standards Committee, and extraordinary or costly legal cases will be brought to the township board for approval. Montgomery County Sheriff's office deputies have arrested a suspect in a sexual assault that took place along Sawdust Road on Wednesday. The Woodlands Township has approved a request from The Woodlands Development Co. to change its park projects in Town Center for 2010.

Bill Starkey, founder of WowWeLive, a video e-mail company, is building a data center for his firm in The Woodlands. Painting with a Twist, located at 570 Sawdust Road, will join sister locations across the southeast in hosting the “Paint with a Purpose” fundraiser for Haiti, Sunday. Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital has received a Level 3 trauma center designation. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. today for the Dave Matthews Band concert to be held at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion on Sept. 10. The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival is set April 10-11.

The Woodlands Township will study several levels of property tax exemptions for homestead, seniors and the disabled before making a decision in April or May. About 100 people crammed into a lunchtime meeting to learn more about The Woodlands community policing initiative and ways they can help prevent crime in their neighborhoods. The Woodlands Township is expected to go to market in March with a $34.6 million bond to fund new fire stations, build and renovate parks and refinance debt. The Woodlands Township will spend up to $8,000 to study the feasibility of a creating a permanent ice rink at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. Mall operator General Growth Properties said Wednesday it reached a deal with Canada's Brookfield Asset Management that will speed its exit from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. General Growth's properties includes The Woodlands Mall.
