    Restaurants plan March wine dinners

Two area restaurants, Americas and Jasper’s, will hold three different wine dinners during the month of March, featuring special menus with accompanying wine selections.

Americas – The Woodlands hosts a wine dinner on March 22, from 5 to 9 p.m., featuring wines from Wente- California. Menu items include pan-seared sea bass served with a 2008 Morning Fog Chardonnay, house smoked salmon served with a 2006 Reliz Creek Pinot Noir, and pan roasted filet mignon served with a 2007 Shorthorn Canyon Syrah. Cost is $65 per person, plus tax and gratuity. Reservations are recommended and are available by calling 281-267-1492.

Jasper’s will hold the first of its two March events, the Ampelos Wine Dinner with co-founder Peter Work, on March 16, featuring a Mardi Gras-themed menu.

The second wine dinner at Jasper’s will be the Barrel 27 event with McPrice “Mac” Meyers, on March 24, at 6:30 p.m. Selections range from hickory grilled Abalone and tri-peppercorn seared Muscovy duck breast to blueberry-thyme braised Kobe short rib and applewood smoked St. Brendan’s Irish salmon. Accompanying wines include a 2007 McPrice Myers Beautiful Earth and 2008 Barrel 27 High on the Hog. Cost is $95 per person, plus tax and 20 percent gratuity. Reservations are required for both Jasper’s events and can be made by contacting Patrick Vasquez at 281-298-6600.
