Spring Fling scheduled for March 27

Lone Star College-Montgomery will host their “Spring Fling: Celebrating Nature in our Community”, Saturday, March 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the college’s campus at 3200 College Park Drive. The annual event is free to the public and will feature inflatable games, arts & crafts, giveaways, music, food, and a variety of hands-on environmental science-based activities.

This year’s Spring Fling emphasizes the role of birds in nature and will showcase community organizations and their preservation efforts. Exhibitors include the Texas Cooperative Extension, Junior Master Gardener Program, Texas Forest Service, Houston Bonsai Society, and Texas Parks and Wildlife.

Some of the activities available to school-age children include birdhouse building, recycled papermaking, habitat exploration, hay rides, face painting, and a petting zoo. Refreshments will also be available for free or at low cost to attendees.

The opening ceremony will commence at 9 a.m. with the reading of a proclamation from the Texas Governor’s Office identifying March 22-28 as “Montgomery County Arbor Day Week”, followed by a special presentation from Woodforest National Bank and a tree planting ceremony.

“Spring Fling is a great way to spend your Saturday,” said Steve Scheffler, dean of college relations at LSC-Montgomery. “There is so much to do; there is something for everyone to enjoy. The main goal of Spring Fling is to give back to the community in both a fun and educational way.”
