CONOCOPHILLIPS RODEO RUN ANTICIPATES RECORD NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS

ConocoPhillips expects to break another record in 2010 with a field limit of 13,000 participants for the upcoming ConocoPhillips Rodeo Run set for February 27, 2010.

In its 23 years as Houston’s only point-to-point 10K and 5K fun run/walk, the event has raised more than $2.2 million in scholarship funds for Texas youth. Every year, participants lead the Houston Livestock Show and RodeoTM (HLS&R) parade past thousands of cheering spectators in downtown Houston to kick off the city’s celebration of its western heritage.

“The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is an amazing Houston tradition and we are proud to be a part of this annual celebration,” said ConocoPhillips Rodeo Run registration director Marshall Cohen. “We hope to increase participation in the race again this year to raise a record amount of scholarship funds for youth scholarships.”

Runners and walkers may pick up their race packets at Luke’s Locker, 1953 West Gray, Wednesday, February 24 through Friday, February 26, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day.

Each year ConocoPhillips has donated race registration entry fees to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Educational Fund and in 2009, the event raised $245,000 for scholarships. In its 23 year history, the event has awarded 186 scholarships to qualified Texas youth.

The race begins at 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of Texas Ave. and Smith St. and finishes with a Texas-sized post race party at Minute Maid Park.

This year, the ConocoPhillips Rodeo Run launched a Facebook page to utilize a new method of communicating information to past and potential participants. By becoming a fan on Facebook, fans can stay up-to-date on the latest news, information and also keep an eye out for special offers.

Gold sponsors of the race include Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Bechtel, Brooks, Chartis Insurance, Continental Airlines, Fulbright and Jaworski LLP, GE Oil and Gas, Halliburton, Luke’s Locker and McJunkin Red Man Corporation. Silver sponsors include Accenture, A-Rocket Moving and Storage, Deutsche Bank, Houston Astros, Securitas, Staples Promotional Products, The Royal Bank of Scotland and Zachry.

Information is available at www.www.conocophillipsRodeoRun.com or by calling the Rodeo Run hotline at 281-293-2447. Additionally, to keep up to date on the latest news or discussions, check out the official ConocoPhillips Rodeo Run on Facebook.

The ConocoPhillips Rodeo Run is 10K sanctioned by USA Track & Field and the Gulf Association of USA Track & Field. The race offers Houston’s only point-to point 10K race and 5K fun run/walk in a festive atmosphere that celebrates the city’s western heritage. From the organization, crowd support and Texas-sized post-race party, the Rodeo Run is one of the most popular and memorable races in the region.
