Native birds going urban - get to know them

An egret in The WoodlandsAn egret in The WoodlandsI've always loved it when, after a drenching rain, egrets or herons lounge in the water-filled ditches.

But there's a lot more out there when it comes to the birds who call Montgomery County home – and Woody Woodrow has pictures of them.

Woodrow, a wildlife biologist with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, will host a program at 7:30 p.m. Thursday Nov. 12 at McCullough Junior High School.

"From Crakes to Cranes – Waterbirds of Our Area" will highlight waders such as egrets, herons, kingfishers, ducks, loons, white pelicans, wandering wood storks, crakes and so forth.

Woodrow will chat about the habits and habitats of "native species that have gone urban."

There is no charge to attend.
